Literary essay: Brown girl dreaming

Jacqueline Woodson has gone through it all. From Jim Crow to Free New York, kids teasing her about her religion, disconnecting from her father. She learns to balance her life and grab on and let go of things. But she has to know what to let go of and what to grab on to. As a kid I would think that is tough. The theme is to balance your life.

On page 68 her brother Hope is slapped with a switch on the leg because he has adapted to te south.
